Lifestyle Business: Building at My Own Pace
A couple of weeks ago, I came across an inspiring video by Ali Abdaal titled The Ultimate Guide to Building a Lifestyle Business. His ideas about designing a business that fits around your life — rather than your life fitting around your business — struck a deep chord with me.
My life has always been structured and highly routinised, almost like a system running on autopilot. That approach works for me, but I’ve realised that true growth doesn’t come from constantly pushing harder. It comes from creating sustainable systems that support curiosity, balance, and fulfilment.
For me, it’s lifestyle over billionaire status. It’s not about becoming the next Elon Musk; it’s about building a stable six-figure business that provides freedom, flexibility, and satisfaction.
Over time, I’ve learned to step away from the “hustle and grind” mentality. That culture celebrates endless work but often leads to burnout and resentment. Productivity should enhance life, not consume it.
When developing any project, I now think in terms of Person, Problem, and Solution:
- Who can I help?
- What problem can I solve for them?
- How does my work deliver that solution?
I’ve learned that specificity creates reach. The more focused your message, the more deeply it resonates — and over time, that attracts a broader and more engaged audience.
My new rule is simple: one by one. Focus fully on one project, complete it with care, and then move to the next. Manage energy, not just time.
And there’s no need to rush. Treat new ventures as side projects first. Test ideas, build relationships, and let things grow naturally.
Ultimately, this journey isn’t a sprint — it’s a marathon. I want to build something meaningful, sustainable, and aligned with my values.
If there’s one lesson I’ve taken from Ali Abdaal’s philosophy, it’s this:
"Don’t chase the hustle. Build a business that moves with your life, not against it."
